[08:29]<@Calum> Hey guys
[08:29]<+camerongray> Hey!
[08:29]<@Calum> How goes it?
[08:29]<+camerongray> Good thanks, trying to figure out how to make a Final Cut Pro title :P
[08:29]<+camerongray> As in actually make the template
[08:30]<@Calum> Ah right, never used Final Cut
[08:30]<+camerongray> They really did dumb it down in version X
[08:30]<+camerongray> A bit too much :P
[08:30]<@Calum> Heh
[08:30]<@BC_Programming> later versions of Final Cut are useless
[08:30]<+camerongray> Can't import FCP 7 projects, can import iMovie ones
[08:30]<@BC_Programming> basically iMovie with a higher price tag
[08:30]<+camerongray> True, I need it for the colour correction and multiple video tracks
[08:31] * Shah (iSun@350CA062.32BD5386.14B510DA.IP) Quit (Quit: bye)
[08:31]<@BC_Programming> Pinnacle Studio, Avid, and Sony Vegas are better :P
[08:31]<@BC_Programming> possibly Adobe Premiere
[08:31]<@BC_Programming> though I've not used that in years
[08:32]<+camerongray> lol Avid is megabucks!
[08:32]<+camerongray> I have vegas but no mac version
[08:32]<+camerongray> Used to use it all the time
[08:33]<@BC_Programming> If you ask me Macintosh's became redundant after OSX and especially after switching to Intel
[08:33]<@BC_Programming> OS9 and earlier were freaking awesome and actually had well-designed and thought out UI's based on first principles
[08:34]<+camerongray> Not really, the switch to Intel means I can run it on my PC
[08:34]<@BC_Programming> no you can't- you can only run OSX...
[08:35]<+camerongray> But nothing runs on OS9 now :P
[08:35]<@BC_Programming> This the problem
[08:35]<+camerongray> And I prefer X, like being able to minimise iwndows
[08:35]<@BC_Programming> you can minimize windows in OS Classic as well
[08:35]<@BC_Programming> and not that shade thing
[08:35]<+camerongray> Never knew that
[08:35]<@BC_Programming> it was that little box button thing
[08:36]<@BC_Programming> there was that box button that closed it, and there was one that sort of looked like a restore button
[08:36]<+camerongray> I grew up using both OS 7-9 and Windows 3.1 - 95
[08:36]<+camerongray> Ahh
[08:37]<+camerongray> I just love how fast it is on my hackintosh
[08:37]<@BC_Programming> OS 7 didn't have it... though I might be thinking of 6
[08:37]<+camerongray> If you ignore the painfully slow POST, it boots only a tiny bit slower than express gate
[08:37]<@Calum> You can disable expressgate you know
[08:38]<+camerongray> Yeah, done
[08:38]<@Calum> And all the random extra Marvell and assorted controllers, all the stuff that slows down POST
[08:38]<+camerongray> Yeah
[08:38]<@Calum> Ah right, fair enough
[08:38]<+camerongray> Still takes a while
[08:38]<@BC_Programming> back in the day they actually offered something You got a Mac IISE for a rather big premium over a IBM PC, but the machine was faster and easier to use, and more consistent- since you could only really have the one OS and it tied in with the ROM
[08:38]<@BC_Programming> now they are basically PCs; same hardware, different shell, and it's rather dissapointing
[08:39]<@Calum> Yeah, true, my new cheapo board POSTs a lot faster than my X58, all the X58s seemed to take a long time to POST
[08:39]<+camerongray> But the OS is still very consistent as it is designed for only a handful of systems
[08:39]<+camerongray> You do lose that with a hackintosh though :P
[08:39]<@BC_Programming> cam: with the exception that it's low level stuff isn't
[08:39]<+camerongray> True
[08:39]<+camerongray> I just love the way it all works together
[08:40]<+camerongray> And time machine rules!
[08:40]<+camerongray> I dumped my RAID 1 array for it
[08:40]<+camerongray> Now I have a 1tb storage HDD and a 1tb Time machine drive
[08:40]<@BC_Programming> ... System Restore & Volume Shadow Copy...
[08:40]<@BC_Programming> more the latter than the former I think
[08:42]<+camerongray> But I love the way I can just go in and find old revisions of files in a simple interface
[08:42]<+camerongray> Plus I like the way you don't maximise windows and the button makes them fit their contents
[08:43]<@BC_Programming> windows has the previous versions tab on a file's properties window
[08:43]<+camerongray> Maximising is a pain on a 1920x1200 monitor (No smirking Calum :P)
[08:43]<@BC_Programming> not sure if it works for folders...
[08:43]<@Calum> Maximising on 2560x1440 is more of a pain
[08:43]<@Calum> Nothing needs full screen
[08:43]<+camerongray> My dual monitors have almost as many pixels as your one :P
[08:43]<@BC_Programming> I only have 1440x900 :/
[08:44]<+camerongray> Yeah, all I have full screen is FCPX and IRC (IRC is on a second 1280x1024 screen)
[08:44]<+camerongray> You all have a dedicated monitor :P
[08:44]<@Calum> I went to my family's PC the other day, which I always found everything a bit small as it's 1920x1200 on a 24", where my old monitor was the same res. but 26". Everything looks MASSIVE now
[08:44]<+camerongray> lol
[08:44]<+camerongray> Bit like me using my friend's iPhone
[08:45]<@Calum> I only ever browse on 1/2 my screen now, and put everything else down the right hand side
[08:45]<+camerongray> The whole thing fits on my Galaxy Nexus's screen
[08:45]<@BC_Programming> I still have a CRT that can only do 1024x768, heh
[08:45]<+camerongray> lol, my school are still on that res
[08:45]<@BC_Programming> my thinkpad's could only do 640x480, heh
[08:45]<+camerongray> lol
[08:46]<@BC_Programming> but they were really good screens
[08:46]<@BC_Programming> very bright and clear
[08:46]<+camerongray> I also had to set up wifi on a friend's wildfire s, Took me a while to figure out how to even hold it!
[08:47]<@BC_Programming> the biggest problem with using really high resolutions is that you can't get good wallpapers for them
[08:47]<+camerongray> I agree on that one
[08:47]<@Calum> I found a good wallpaper site, got some really nice wallpapers
[08:47]<@BC_Programming> without stretching
[08:47]<+camerongray> I was lucky, got one I like
[08:48]<@BC_Programming> all my wallpapers are 2880x1800- double my own res for future-proofing
[08:48]<+camerongray> Cool
[08:48]<@BC_Programming> it's about a billion times easier to make a smaller version, but making it bigger would mean starting over
[08:48]<+camerongray> This is mine: http://www.customizemyi.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/homer_simpson_and_apple-1920x1200.jpg
[08:48]<@BC_Programming> of course it takes almost a minute to save to PNG
[08:48]<@Calum> I found interfacelift.com, they do wallpapers in all resolutions so I just grabbed a load from there - first time I've ever used a wallpaper, heh
[08:48]<+camerongray> lol
[08:49]<@Calum> Seriously, I used to just use the Win2K style blue background
[08:49]<@BC_Programming> I've made 107 wallpapers so far
[08:49]<+camerongray> lol, same here
[08:49]<+camerongray> With windows classic!
[08:49]<@BC_Programming> yeah I used to use solid colours as well
[08:49]<@Calum> Yeah, rockin' classic theme too
[08:49]<@BC_Programming> since I was so used to having to save memory on everything
[08:50]<@BC_Programming> so if I used a wallpaper I would try something clever like a horizontal or vertical rainbow that was one pixel wide or high
[08:50]<+camerongray> lol
[08:50]<@Calum> Heh
[08:50]<@BC_Programming> This is the one I'm using
[08:50]<@BC_Programming> http://bc-programming.deviantart.com/art/BASeCamp-Wallpaper-292376345
[08:50]<+camerongray> Not a pony?!?!?!
[08:51]<@BC_Programming> no... though I've made a few MLP wallpapers since
[08:51]<@BC_Programming> I've been meaning to switch back to a wallpaper slideshow of all of them again
[08:51]<@BC_Programming> if only to test the python script I wrote for the purpose on Linux
[08:54]<@BC_Programming> I find it funny when people will put "urgent" or "important" or "critical" in the subject of their forum post
[08:55]<@BC_Programming> as if theirs is somehow now magically more important than everybody elses questions and requests
[08:55]<@Calum> But of course it is
[08:55]<@BC_Programming> heheh
[08:56]<+camerongray> lol
[08:57]<+camerongray> I hate it when people don't try restarting it and then go mad when you tell them to
[08:57]<@BC_Programming> or when you say "are you sure it's plugged in all the way"
[08:57]<@BC_Programming> and they are all "of course it is, do you think I'm an idiot"
[08:57]<@BC_Programming> which I cannot answer
[08:57]<@Calum> Yes
[08:57]<@Calum> Yes I do
[08:57]<@BC_Programming> I found a secret method though
[08:58]<@BC_Programming> I get them to try unplugging it and plugging it (whatever it is) back in
[08:58]<@Calum> Yeah, that's a good tactic
[08:58]<+camerongray> The other day at school someone's computer wasn't able to log on for some reason, I ended up leaning over it and unplugging/reconnecting the mouse and the said "You'll need to restart it now", Problem solved
[08:59]<@BC_Programming> haha
[08:59]<@BC_Programming> back at school, the lab computers were in two rows, back to back on the inside of the room, as well as the outside
[08:59]<@BC_Programming> sometimes I would swap the keyboard and mouse cords of computers that were back to back
[08:59]<+camerongray> lol
[09:00]<@BC_Programming> one time I swapped the keyboard, mouse, and monitor
[09:00]<@BC_Programming> it was hilarious
[09:00]<+camerongray> hahaha!
[09:00]<@BC_Programming> "my flash drive doesn't work"
[09:00]<@BC_Programming> "Ahhh a drive just appeared"
[09:00]<@Calum> Heh
[09:00]<@BC_Programming> otherwise it would look fine to them. They never did figure out who did it
[09:01]<+camerongray> lol
[09:02]<@BC_Programming> or if somebody had a floppy they would stick it in their drive, try to access it, and the computer on the other side would start gnashing it's drive
[09:02]<@BC_Programming> that was fun because you could scare people since they were pretty loud
[09:05]<+camerongray> lol
